PRE-SUMMIT TRAININGS
We have two great trainings planned for the day before the Summit. Â All trainings will be at the MEA in East Lansing. Â Please spread the word to anyone you think would be interested!
The first half of the day (from 9 am to 1 pm) is a CPL Collaborative Leadership Training, as requested by partners in our leadership development survey, and will be very interactive, including large and small group discussions, personal reflection, handouts, and structured time for new skills practice.
The second training (from 1 to 4 pm) is devoted to learning about how each ouf our organizations can help in the fight for LGBT equality no matter what our primary issue is. Progressive allies will be key to winning the fight for equality in Michigan. Ally organizations are invited to attend a training to hear more about the goals of the LGBT equality agenda for Michigan. polling data and key messages, communications strategy, tactics and tools, and how to get involved. From local human rights ordinances to expanding the civil rights act, the LGBT community is seeking allies in the movement for legal and lived equality of LGBT individuals in Michigan.
AND don’t forget we will have a Summit Kickoff Reception on Friday night from 5:30 – 7:30 pm at Spiral, located at 1247 Center Street, Lansing, MI 48906.
You: A Collaborative Leader 9am -11 am - Discuss some core practices of collaborative leadership and identify areas for individual growth as a collaborative leader Explore strategies for using collaborative leadership in your work Make personal commitments to foster collaborative leadership Practice having difficult conversations as a way to overcome conflict and barriers that prevent collaboration.
Your Organization: Collaborative Leadership 11am -1 pm - Put the learning and insights of collaboration into action using the example of coalition building Explore when and why coalitions are necessary for progressive change and what a successful coalition looks like Be able to identify personal and organizational strategies to break down divides that impede collaborative work.
Fight for Equality Allies Training 1am-4pm – This training will include large group and small group discussion about how to combat the fight against fairness for all in Michiganders. Each participant will be given a advocacy tool kit. Each participate will also leave with concrete next steps to join in the fight for equality.
